RECENT UPDATES....

We have a new home!

April 11, 2007:   Once weather permits construction on Phase II habitats is set to begin!  Additional funding is critical to the success of this phase of construction.

PAST EVENTS:

December 21, 2006 - Five months to the day after breaking ground, all animals have been moved to the new site!  Phase I of the Relocation Project is nearly complete.

December 2, 2006 - Two adult chimpanzees are relocated to a new indoor habitat, making them the first residents of the new primate/mammal house.

October 28, 2006 - Eleven big cats and two black bears become the first residents to move to the new site.

July 26, 2006 - Groundbreaking ceremony is held at the new site with over 20 community supporters and contributors, dignitaries, and staff members present.

July 1, 2006 - The first "official" volunteer work day is scheduled.  Community members and supporters are invited to help clear brush and begin ground work to prep for construction at the new site.

June 29, 2006 - The Dekko Foundation grants $37,000 to fund the hiring of a Project Manager for the Relocation Project.

June 13, 2006 - The lease is signed!!

June 9, 2006 - The Noble County Commissioners and county attorney discussed the terms of a 40-year lease for 18 acres of land located less than two miles from Black Pine's current site.  Ultimately a vote was passed to draw up the lease, for review on June 12.  PARC, Inc. officials anticipate signing the new lease on June 12. 

June 5, 2006 - Officials from PARC, Inc. attended the meeting of the Noble County Commissioners.  Due to the absence of other parties required to attend, the meeting was recessed and will reconvene on Friday, June 9 at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioner's Room at the Noble County Courthouse. 

May 30, 2006 -  PARC, Inc. receives formal confirmation of first $50,000 matching gift to fund the relocation of the sanctuary.  This gift serves as a challenge to the citizens of Albion and the community at large to contribute $50,000 to this project.

May 23, 2006 - PARC Inc. and 4-H Exhibit Corp. are slated to appear in front of the Noble County Commissioners on Monday, June 4 to request two new leases be written to facilitate Black Pine's move and continue 4-H activities.

May 22, 2006 - PARC Inc. Board of Directors met with officials from 4-H Exhibit Corporation.  The Exhibit Corp. voted unanimously to "release" 18 acres on the north end of the 4-H park for use by Black Pine, pending agreement of the Noble County Commissioners who must ultimately write new leases with both organizations.

May 8, 2006 - PARC Inc. Board of Directors and Sanctuary Board officials address the Albion Town Council at their regular meeting to further explore opportunities to relocate the sanctuary to the land adjacent to Hidden Diamonds Park.

May 7, 2006 - PARC Inc. Board of Directors meets with officials representing Noble County 4-H to explore possibilities of relocating the sanctuary to 54 acres of county-owned land now leased to 4-H. 

May 6, 2006 - Zoologist and personality Jack Hanna presents a live show at the Scottish Rite Center in Fort Wayne, raising an estimated $10,000 for the relocation project.

May 5, 2006 – Bonar approaches PARC Board President and makes verbal counter offer of $250,000 for purchase of property.  Board decides not to purchase at $250,000, citing need for significant improvements to meet building codes, lack of parking space, and lack of expansion options.

May 1, 2006 - PARC Inc. Board of Directors meets with the Albion Park Board and Park Superintendent to explore options regarding relocation to a parcel of land adjacent to Hidden Diamonds Park in Albion. 

April 29, 2006 – By unanimous vote, PARC, Inc. declines "final" purchase offer and decides to pursue relocating the sanctuary.  Bonar is also removed from the board by a vote, due to conflict of interest.

April 27, 2006 – Brad Bonar presents a "final" counter-offer to PARC, Inc. for purchase of property.

April 21, 2006 – PARC, Inc. makes counter-offer to purchase property.

April 4, 2006 – Brad Bonar presents PARC, Inc. with two options for sanctuary:  Purchase the existing 12.5 acres, including residence, for $411,000, or vacate the premises by October 1, 2006.
